Many times young entrepreneurs need some measure of encouragement to keep them focused, motivated and energized. Well, I came across this post in a blogsite called Flush the toilet and I think it will encourage young entrepreneurs who think nothing is working out for them. I love the title of the post.

This is All Practice, So Keep at it.

Young entrepreneur + ideas + implement idea + idea fails + try again = Practice.

We’re young entrepreneurs and it’s just the beginning. The fact that we’re actually waking up every morning and taking steps to make our dreams a reality it a huge accomplishment.

Sure, we’re going to fail and also have a few successes here and there, but when all is said and done, we’re still training and practicing.

That’s what it’s all about. When a sports team loses, what do they do? They train harder and come back better than ever! So when you see your failures mounting up, don’t be discouraged as long as you stay on the playing field and keep working at it.

Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he created the light bulb. In fact, he referred to it not as failure, but as finding “10,000 ways that didn’t work.”

Just as muscles grow stronger with stress and conditioning, your ability to create successful ventures will increase over time; over many, many failures. That’s what being a practicing entrepreneur is all about.

So, are you ready to keep practising this year? remember,
Practice makes perfect! and successs will be yours.

Olive oil is one of the oldest culinary oils. The olive tree is native to Asia Minor and was first thought to be cultivated in Syria about 6,000 years ago. It spread to the rest of the Mediterranean around 5,000 years ago and was being grown in Crete by 3,000 BC.Some say that the best olive oils come from the Mediterranean, but whilst countries such as France, Greece, Italy, and Spain all produce fine specimens.
Both scriptural and classical writings refer to both the oil and the tree as as a symbols of goodness, purity, peace and happiness. According to legend, the first olive tree grew on Adam’s tomb and don’t forget an olive branch was brought to Noah by a dove on the ark signaling the end of the flood.
The acient Romans believed it to be a gift from the gods. They lit olive oil lamps before a baby was born. The lamps carried names and they named the baby after the one which burned the longest. To garantee a long and healthy life.
In addition to its culinary use, the oil was burnt in the sacred lamps of temples, while the victor in the Olympic games was crowned with its leaves and by the time they were established in Egypt, they were so highly prized that the great Tutankhamen had olive branches placed in his tomb.
Today, we know that olive oil helps to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease due to its fatty acid composition. It is also contains antioxidant substances such as vitamins E, K and polyphenols which helps to delay aging and prevent carcinogenesis, liver disorders and inflammations. Olive oil has always been known to be rich to the taste and it is very well tolerated by the stomach and is believed to lower the incidence of gallstone formation as well as promoting bone mineralisation, and is therefore excellent for those who have bone calcification problems.
All in all, it is a superb ingredient as far as health benefits are concerned.

The Mausoleum of Mausolus, or Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was a tomb built between 353-350 BC at Halicarnassus (present Bodrum, Turkey), for Mausolus (Greek ???????? Maús?los), a provincial king in the Persian Empire, and Artemisia, his wife and sister. (It was the custom in Caria for rulers to marry their own sisters. One reason for these marriages might have been that it kept the power and wealth in the family.)
Though, similar to the Great Pyramid, yet the Mausoleum is different – so different from the Pyramid that it earned its reputation – and a spot within the list – for other reasons. Geographically, it is closer to the Temple of Artemis… And it was the beauty of the tomb rather than its size that fascinated its visitors for years. It was designed by the Greek architects Satyrus and Pythius. The structure was approximately 45-metres (135 feet) in height, and each of the four sides was adorned by a freize created by one of four famous Greek sculptors.
The construction of Halicarnassus where the tomb recided was built on the note that it would be a city worth beholding but safe from its enemies. Mausolus started making Halicarnassus a fit capital for a warrior prince. Mausolus and Artemisia spent their huge amount of tax money on beautifying the city. They bought statues, temples, and buildings of gleaming marble. In the center of the city Mausolus planned to place a resting place for his body after he was dead. It would be a tomb that would forever show how rich he and his queen were. Then in 353 BC Mausolus died, leaving Artemisia broken-hearted. As a tribute to him, she decided to build him the most splendid tomb in the known world. It became a structure so famous that Mausolus’s name is now associated with all stately tombs through our modern word mausoleum. Artemisia decided that no expense was to be spared in the building of the tomb. She sent messengers to Greece to find the most talented artists of the time. This included Scopas, the man who had supervised the rebuilding of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. Other famous sculptors such as Bryaxis, Leochares and Timotheus joined him as well as hundreds of other craftsmen. Another school of thought is of the opinion that these sculptors were responsible for the sculpts on each side of the building. Because the statues were of people and animals, the Mausoleum holds a special place in history as it was not dedicated to the gods of Ancient Greece. The tomb was erected on a hill overlooking the city. The whole structure sat in an enclosed courtyard. At the center of the courtyard was a stone platform on which the tomb itself sat which was made of marble. A staircase, flanked by stone lions, led to the top of this platform. Along the outer wall of this were many statues depicting gods and goddess. At each corner stone warriors, mounted on horseback, guarded the tomb. The finished structure was considered to be such an aesthetic triumph that Antipater of Sidon identified it as one of his Seven Wonders of the World. The word mausoleum has since come to be used generically for any grand tomb, though “Mausol-eum” originally meant “in honour of Mausol”.

Lagos can be a wonderful city despite it’s chaotic environent. But during the rainy season, it is another story. The streets are so messy and so irritating, you won’t feel like going out of your home. I had a horrible experience yesterday, let me narrate my story to you. I had just closed at the company where I’m doing my IT (Indutrial Attachment). I was walking from Computer Village at Ikeja to the bus stop to board a bus to Shaga. As I hit the main road, I was suprised at what I saw. The road was flooded, the drainages were full so pedestrians had to walk on the main road (in water mind you)
As I walked towards the flood I thought, how I’m I going to cross this red sea?who will be the deliverer that would part this sea full of mud and dirt? I looked around me and I saw that I had no option but to just walk in this flood with the other pesdestrians. As I walked in the middle of the road, the motor cyclits (Okada men) were scrambling all around me and the vehicles were moving as if there was no one on the road. I wondered why these people were so inconsiderate, couldn’t they see that they had to share the main road with the pedestrians. But then I remembered, this is Lagos, no one waits for anybody. I just had to be extra careful so that I could get home safely. I saw men in their nice suits, who had to roll up their trousers and remove their shoes ,ladies also had to walk bare-feet on the road. The whole experience was so annoying. All I wanted to do was to get out of the flood, get home and scrub my feet thoroughly. This is an episode I wouldn’t want to experience again. I guess that’s wishful thinking because this is part of life in lagos.

Is it simply a temple? How could it take its place among other unique structures such as the Pyramid, the Hanging Gardens, and the Colossus of Rhodes? For the people who actually visited it, the answer was simple. It was not just a temple…It was the most beautiful structure on earth… It was built in honor of the Greek goddess of hunting, wild nature, and fertility. That was the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, also known as the Temple of Diana. It was located near the modern town of Selcuk, about 50 km south of Izmir (Smyrna) in Turkey. It was described by Antipater of Sidon, who compiled a list of the Seven Wonders:
“I have set eyes on the wall of lofty Babylon on which is a road for chariots, and the statue of Zeus by the Alpheus, and the hanging gardens, and the colossus of the Sun, and the huge labour of the high pyramids, and the vast tomb of Mausolus; but when I saw the house of Artemis that mounted to the clouds, those other marvels lost their brilliancy, and I said, ‘Lo, apart from Olympus, the Sun never looked on aught (anything) so grand.” (Antipater, Greek Antholog[IX.58])
Although the foundation of the temple dates back to the seventh century BC, the structure that earned a spot in the list of the Seven (original) Wonders of the world was built around 550 BC. Referred to as The Great Marble Temple, or Temple D, it was a 120-year project which was sponsored by the Lydian king, Croesus, and was designed by the Greek architect, Chersiphron. The Temple was decorated with bronze statues sculpted by the most skilled artists of the time: Pheidias (who also built the Statute of Zeus), Polycleitus, Kresilas, and Phradmon.

The temple served as both a marketplace and a religious institution. For years, the sanctuary was visited by merchants, tourists, artisans, and kings who paid homage to the goddess by sharing their profits with her. Recent archeological excavations at the site revealed gifts from pilgrims including statuettes of Artemis made of gold and ivory…earrings, bracelets, and necklaces…artifacts from as far as Persia and India.

On the night of 21 July 356 BC, a man named Herostratus burned the temple to ground in an attempt to immortalize his name, which he did indeed. It is interesting to note that Alexander the Great was born that same night. The historian Plutarch later wrote that the goddess, Artemis, was “too busy taking care of the birth of Alexander to send help to her threatened temple“. Sure, she had to, as she was only responding to her motherly instincts!

Well, when Alexander the Great conquered Asia Minor, he offered to rebuild the destroyed temple, but the Temple was not restored until after his death in 323 BC. The temple was eventually restored and is labeled “Temple E” by archeologists.

When St Paul visited Ephesus to preach Christianity in the first century AD, he was confronted by the Artemis’ cult who had no plans to abandon their goddess. And when the temple was again destroyed by the Goths in AD 262, the Ephesians vowed to rebuild. By the fourth century AD, most Ephesians had converted to Christianity and the temple lost its religious glamor. The final chapter came when in AD 401 the Temple of Artemis was torn down by St John Chrysostom. Ephesus was later deserted, and only in the late nineteenth century has the site been excavated. The digging revealed the temple’s foundation and the road to the now swampy site. Attempts were recently made to rebuild the temple, but only a few columns have been re-erected.
