When will we ever stop giving all this fancy names and call things what they really are and stop making it sound so much different than it really is? What is Linkbaiting? For a second let’s answer this question. What does the word bait mean?
bait (plural baits)
- Any substance, esp. food, used in catching fish, or other animals, by alluring them to a hook, snare, trap, or net.
- Anything which allures; a lure; enticement; temptation.
- A portion of food or drink, as a refreshment taken on a journey; also, a stop for rest and refreshment.
What else wants to make people link to you except that you have something that make people want to keep coming back. They figure if I love his site then others probably will, so why no link to him that way his traffic could spill over to me. Not even great site design is Linkbait? After all people get your stuff through RSS, anyway-one rung too high for site design.
So if you write a new idea, novel, refreshing, though provoking or perhaps recycle enrich someone else’s novel idea, this is what is called Linkbaiting.
So just like Tony over at Deep Jive Interests said, about a week ago, Why Not Call “Linkbaiting” By Its Real Name?, Good Content! Period.
Want to Linkbait? Then write Link-worthy content.
