Leaving home away from one’s family and loved ones for campus life is what most young people look forward to, especially after their high school. Suddenly the time comes for the great transition – leaving home for campus life, then you start feeling jittering – due to: leaving home(loved ones), homesickness, change of environment, getting to know people, coping with budgets, looking after yourself, how will I ever cope? … and what not. You don’t have to be apprehensive, even the most confident go-getter guy feels daunted and disorientated on campus for the first time. It takes quite some time to get settled and to survive the initial shock and emotional stress associated with campus life. I have been through the system myself, so I know exactly what I’m talking about. I could remember my days as a fresher; I was so scared to get acquainted with people. “I literally felt left out as though I did not belong in here” despite the fact that I have spent quite a lot of time with them during registration. I actually came to find out that the best way to deal with the vulnerability of campus life is “to get out there and get yourself acquainted with people. After all, the few people you get to meet during your fresher days doesn’t necessarily mean they will be your friends for the next three four years”. So why don’t you get out of your shell and get yourself acquainted with people, for the guy you hang around with in your fresher days may be of a help to you.
