Recently, a friend of mine sent me a mail on stress and some simple steps to control it. I really feel I should share it with you as we all get stressed out one time or the other. Stress is a silent but very potent killer in our society and it is high time we take note of the potential danger it poses to us
1. Control Your Anger:
In a busy city like Lagos and generally, in a country like Nigeria where almost anything goes, anger management is something that needs to be taken a little bit more seriously. Effective anger managent is a tried-and-true stress remover. So, watch it. The next time that bus conductor or the car in front of you gets you annoyed, watch your reaction and do your best to control your anger. It most probably won’t come easy but it can be done. just stick hard with it.
2. Breathe:
I remember once reading a book that said many of the things that ail us healthwise are as a result of poor breathing habits. It is also a fact that there are many who learn to control stress through the simple technique of breathing. How is it done? Simple. Just breathe. Breathe deep and long. It goes a very long way in taking care of stress.
3. Slow Down:
This is just one simple truth that cannot be avoided. No matter what you do, when stress comes, you just have to slow down. Take things easy. Try as much as you can to find a way to slow things down. Your life may depend on it.
4. Get Some Fresh Air:
This naturally follows slowing down. Take a break. Go out. Go on a vacation if you can. Go out doors and admire nature, admire your surroundings. Look well and hard enough you will find something that will interest you.
4. Avoid Hunger And Dehydration:
Your body needs strength and it gets that from the food you eat. You can’t expect to perform optimally if your body is not well nourished. And ofcourse life cannot be possible without water. Take plenty of it. The doctors tell us it is absolutely necessary.
5. Posture:
Many do not realize it, but your posture plays a vital part in your well being. Bad posture can lead to muscular tension. So, avoid stooping or slumping. Take the tension off of yourself.
These are some and by no means the only ways to control stress. So, work hard at it and you can’t help but notice the difference if you are stressed out.
