On September 6, 2006, at 8:27 a.m. (Japan Standard Time), Princess Kiko gave birth to a baby boy, by Caesarean section. The child weighed 5 lbs 10 oz (2556 g) at birth. The child, who will not be named until a ceremony seven days after his birth, which will be next week Tuesday, is the first male heir to be born into the imperial family in 41 years.
