Did you know of a September that never ended? Eternal September as often called, was a Usenet slang expression for the period of time beginning September 1993. The use of these expressions implies the belief that standards of discourse and behavior on Usenet have declined since 1993 due to an unending influx of new users.
Usenet originated among universities. Every year, in September, a large number of new university students got access to Usenet, and took some time to acclimate themselves to the network’s standards of conduct and netiquette. After a month or so, the new users would (it is supposed) learn to comport themselves as normal Usenet users. September, thus, represented the network’s largest regular influx of newbies. This coincided with people starting college, getting their first internet accounts, and plunging in without bothering to learn what was acceptable. These relatively small drafts of newbies could be assimilated within a few months. But in September 1993, AOL users became able to post to Usenet, nearly overwhelming the old-timers’ capacity to acculturate them; to those who nostalgically recall the period before, this triggered an inexorable decline in the quality of discussions on newsgroups.
Did you also know that World War II began on September 1 1939, following Hitler‘s invasion of Poland and ended on the same month, September 2 1945 when the Japanese surrender. And that September begins on the same day of the week as December every year.
Did you know that the Morning Glory is the flower for september, and that it blooms only in the morning hours. However, by the time the sun has fallen, the flower has died. Each morning, this plant gives birth to a brand new flower on the plant. Because they bloom in the morning, they are often pollinated by hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and other daytime birds and insects. In some part of this world, it has been used for medicinal purposes as a powerful laxative. During the Edo Period it was a popular decorative flower. If your birthday falls in September, your flowers are Aster and Morning Glory. Aster is the symbol of Love and Daintiness. Morning glory means Affection.
