Earlier this week, I came across some really interesting news. Can you imagine that the Indian government has put a clampdown on some blogsites and websites? Not only does the ban affect Indian blogs and websites but it also affected are some of the ‘glitterati’ of the blogosphere, such as: blogspot.com, geocities.com, typepad.com e.t.c. According to NDTV 24X7, an Indian news channel, the ban is not connected to the recent blasts in Mumbai, but is a step towards trying to reduce the bloom of religious extremism on the Net. Personally, this bugs me because I feel blogs have given the ordinary man a voice on the Net and if that is taken away we might as well take away their freedom of speech. For people who live in India: no posting on their blogs and no reading blogs; it really sounds crazy and scary. But wait! Indian bloggers can still post on their blogs and read blogs through RSS subscription…hmm…you know? If the government is taking the ban really seriously I’m afraid they’ll find a way to shut these loopholes too. …Are you thinking what I’m thinking? They will never be 100% successful at this because as we all know, there are lots of computer nerds in India and beating them(the nerds) will be a tall order. So if my voice means anything at all, I protest this action! Care to join me? Yes? I thought so. Any blogger in his right senses would. Hmm…I guess you’d like to know which blogs have been affected, below is list of the blocked sites:
• hinduunity.org
•hinduhumanrights.org
• princesskimberley.com
• bloodspot.com
• dalitstan.org
• clickatell.com
