The Clinton Global Initiative is a non-partisan catalyst for action, bringing together global leaders including heads of state, non-profit organizations, charities, and business leaders to discuss challenges facing the world today and devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The initiative culminates in an annual conference, at which each invited guest must make a specific commitment to address one of the focus areas discussed. The Clinton Global Initiative staff then monitors the progress and success of these commitments throughout the year. At the inaugural meeting in September 2005, 35 current and 10 former heads of state along with leaders from 69 countries debated, discussed and formulated strategies to solve issues in the areas of global poverty, religious conflict and reconciliation, good governance, and climate change. Their efforts resulted in nearly 300 commitments worth more than $2.5 billion. The Clinton Global Initiative is a project of the William J. Clinton Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to strengthen the capacity of people throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence. To advance this mission, the Foundation has developed programs and partnerships in the following areas:
Economic Empowerment
Health Security with an emphasison HIV/AIDS
Racial, Ethnic and Religious Reconciliation
Education, Leadership Development and
Citizen Service.
The Foundation works principally through partnerships with like-minded individuals, organizations, corporations, and governments, often serving as an incubator for new policies and programs.
Along with these programs and initiatives, the William J. Clinton Foundation designed and developed the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Encompassing the vision of President Clinton, the Center is located within a 30 acre city park along the southern bank of the Arkansas River. In addition to the Little Rock offices of the William J. Clinton Foundation, the Clinton Presidential Center includes the Clinton Presidential Library and Museum and the Clinton School of Public Service.
