My family and I took a short trip to Obudu Cattle Ranch a day to my birthday. It’s one of the best resorts to visit in Nigeria. Obudu Cattle Ranch is located in the highlands of Cross River State in South-Eastern Nigeria, only 45 miles from the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. The Ranch is over 1,524m and possesses a temperate climate due to its high altitude, which ensures green vegetation and encourages the grazing of cattle all year round. It has a Bebi Airstrip which is a shuttle flight mode of transportation from Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt via Calabar to Bebi. A gate with a huge imposing ox-head and a thin welcome notice opens with a gentle feel like it’s safe-guarding some hidden treasure behind it. This resort is worth the grueling steep drive to the top of the plateau. It has a water park which is located at the base of the hill. The Ranch is a tourist delight as a result of its divergent attractions; there is a natural swimming pool, horse riding facilities, a beautiful waterfall to behold, a gorilla camp, sporting facilities and accommodation. The latest attraction at the Obudu Ranch is a cable-car (similar to Europe’s) that runs from the foot of the hill to the top, easing transportation and providing spectacular sceneries. The most exciting sites and facilities at the ranch include:
• The Gorilla Colony
• Nigeria Cameroon Border villages
• The Exciting Mountain ranges
• The Bird watching Centre
• Nature Conservation Arena
• Plant Nursery
The Gorilla Camp, 13 km from the hotel, is accessible either by vehicle or on foot, where one can take a long, picturesque walk to the camp and observe gorillas in their natural habitat. Guests may also ride horses or embark on hiking trips into the wild (comfortable shoes and a guide are recommended). Bird watching here is unparalleled and there is a pleasantly shaded natural swimming pool near the Ranch House. If visitors accept the challenge of a three-hour hike, they’ll be rewarded with a stop at the waterfall, nestled amid captivating scenery.
