The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Unilag branch joines their counterparts in other Universities in Nigeria to embark on a one week National Strike to press for the renegotiation of ASUU-FGN 2001 agreement. The issues are;
1. The government failed to honor its agreement to set up a Negotiating team and renegotiate the 2001 agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). ASUU is also aggrieved by the continued injustice to ASUU members at University of IIorin.
2. The Committee of Pro-Chancellors (CPC) assured ASUU that the government will meet with them and it turned out that the government were not aware of it.
Due to these issues and many more, there will be no statutory meetings, no examinations, no committee meetings and no project supervision during the one week. The strike is expected to end on July 4, 2006
