Lagos can be a wonderful city despite it’s chaotic environent. But during the rainy season, it is another story. The streets are so messy and so irritating, you won’t feel like going out of your home. I had a horrible experience yesterday, let me narrate my story to you. I had just closed at the company where I’m doing my IT (Indutrial Attachment). I was walking from Computer Village at Ikeja to the bus stop to board a bus to Shaga. As I hit the main road, I was suprised at what I saw. The road was flooded, the drainages were full so pedestrians had to walk on the main road (in water mind you)
As I walked towards the flood I thought, how I’m I going to cross this red sea?who will be the deliverer that would part this sea full of mud and dirt? I looked around me and I saw that I had no option but to just walk in this flood with the other pesdestrians. As I walked in the middle of the road, the motor cyclits (Okada men) were scrambling all around me and the vehicles were moving as if there was no one on the road. I wondered why these people were so inconsiderate, couldn’t they see that they had to share the main road with the pedestrians. But then I remembered, this is Lagos, no one waits for anybody. I just had to be extra careful so that I could get home safely. I saw men in their nice suits, who had to roll up their trousers and remove their shoes ,ladies also had to walk bare-feet on the road. The whole experience was so annoying. All I wanted to do was to get out of the flood, get home and scrub my feet thoroughly. This is an episode I wouldn’t want to experience again. I guess that’s wishful thinking because this is part of life in lagos.
