The much-criticized post University Matriculation Examination test for students seeking admission to universities will now remain as a part of the quality control measures in the admission process, says President Olusegun Obasanjo. He said it was part of the reforms of his administration to the university system of the country. According to him, it has come to the level where the UME alone can no longer be relied upon as the true reflections of candidates performance. Expressing concern over the high student enrollment in universities, the president said that the recent measures introduced by the NUC to ensure that universities limited enrollment of students to assigned carrying capacity, enjoyed the backing of the government.
