Today’s date 06/06/06 (June 06, 2006) coincides with the alleged number of the devil, and so, whilst some partied the so-called Devil’s Day away, others stayed indoors. The internet became a platform for discussion on the issue around the world. 666, a number religiously and perhaps historically associated with Satan, was today celebrated by Satanists and prayed about by Christian groups. But to some, it was just another day. While browsing on the net today, I discovered that today happens to be the birthday of Joyce Plumb, who was born weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and turned 66 years old on this very day! Wow, how strange! “It’s just a coincidence — a really cute coincidence,” Plumb said. Her children had a sign made for her front door that said, “Happy Birthday! Beware The House 6-6-6.” “It had never occurred to them that I’m also turning 66,” Plumb said. Plumb said some people take her birthday very seriously. A co-worker actually was fearful. She jumped back and started making the sign of the cross at Joyce Plumb, saying that Joyce was the devil’s child. Today happens to be a day with strange occurences, as today also marked the release of the much acclaimed Classic horror film called ‘The Omen’. In this movie, the child, Damian, is the son of Satan and marked with the numbers 666. These were not the only events that transpired on this day of all days. Chicago’s internet-based station, Radio Free Satan , hosted a massive party in Los Angeles, whilst a Netherlands-based evangelical organisation called on Christians in 21 countries to hold a 24-hour prayer meeting against satanic forces. Several Christian websites suggested that this day would bring people closer to “the rapture”, which is when God calls his Christian faithfuls up to heaven. It was also alleged that the supposed antichrist would be revealed to the world on this day. All these have ignited disturbing thoughts and questions in the minds of people. A Jesuit priest, professor of Theology and Religious studies called for calm on his web page devoted to 666. The priest highlighted the fact that “combination of three sixes can be found almost anywhere we want, if we look hard enough”.
