Today, I woke up more alert and happy than I’d been in a long time. It was 5.30am when I looked at the clock! The room was chilly because my windows had been open all night and from what I could hear, the birds were having a gathering in the trees right outside my house. Wrapped up in my robe, I whistled happily as my feet tap-danced across the tiled floor. I opened the door leading to the porch and stopped dead in my tracks. There, right in front of me, was a cat, a beautiful cat. It had glassy gray eyes and a patch of gray on its white coat. I turned slowly and withdrew inside, showered quickly and ran down the stairs. My mum was by the counter with a big roasted chicken on a silver plate. Looking at me, she smiled and said, “Good morning dear, did you sleep well?” “I slept peacefully like a baby” I answered. “Hey I almost forgot, did you see the cat, it’s your’s dear. Happy birthday!” she said. There I stood looking at her as if I hadn’t heard her: she laughed at my expression. How come one always seems to remember other people’s birthdays but can’t ever remember when it’s one’s own birthday! All that could come out of my mouth at that moment was, “No wonder I woke up extra happy today”. My mum burst out laughing and I couldn’t help myself, but to join in. I laughed till my ribs ached. To cut the long story short, I had a most wonderful day.
