Recently, our very own UNILAG was adjudged the best of all Nigerian universities by NUC. How does that make you feel? It’s interesting! Also, our Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) (aka Baba’s lawyer), bagged the NUC/NASAMA prestigious award for Best Council Chairman while our Council also emerged the Best Council. Now, here’s the bang: Our own distinguished alumnus, the first alumnus Vice-Chancellor of Unilag, Professor Oyewusi Aremu Ibidapo-Obe, also came first among all the Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian universities. Hear him: “The University of Lagos will make the list of the best two hundred Universities in the world by the year 2008″. Well, sir, I commend your vision. It will be a most welcome achievement, realizing that no university in Nigeria is among the first 6000 universities in the world. So the journey is Herculean indeed. But, who says our VC is not a Hercules?
