As a student, I have realized that one needs a large dose of good attitude to stay on top of the numerous challenges one comes across. Attitudes are the established ways of responding to other people and situations based on the beliefs, values and assumptions we hold. Attitudes manifest through our behaviour. Often times, we are faced with choices as to what attitude to adopt. There is nothing in any situation that should evoke a negative attitude from us. All the time, you are better off reacting positively than otherwise. The power to make this choice is innate. Your attitude is the first thing people observe in a face-to-face encounter. Just as laughing, yawning and crying are infectious, so is attitude. It is not what happens to you that determines your results but your reaction. This poem below reminds me of that famous line we were taught in KG, that “your attitude will determine your altitude”.
The longer I live, the more I realize,
The impact of attitude on life.
It is more important than the past,
Education, money, circumstances,
Than what other people say or do.
It is more important than appearance, talent, or skill.
It will make or break a company, a church, a home, a person.
The remarkable thing is that you have a choice every day,
Regarding the attitude you will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past.
We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can change is our attitude.
Life is 10 percent what happens to me
And 90 percent how I react to it.
And so is it for you.
Take charge of your attitude.
And you’ll be in charge of your life.

“Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon, must inevitably come to pass” (Paul Meyer) If your attitude in life is positive, it is only because you dwell on positive matters.
